SO YOU WANT AN AWARD OR SOMETHING?
a dinner inspired by work from Mack Baker
SATURDAY april 12th
6PM-10PM @ Compound Yellow
244 Lake St, Oak Park IL
“What if our sins weren’t things to hide from,” asks Mack Baker, “but rather, revel in?”
Revel, a kind of rebellion, a transgression through unveiling. To revel, perhaps then, is also to reveal.
In a stunning new exhibition produced by Naomi Projects, artist Mack Baker’s contorted ceramic bodies unravel as monuments to the seven deadly sins, celebrating—rather than condemning—the liberatory nature of sin.
As part of the celebration, TXA TXA will be creating a 7-course dinner in conjunction with Baker’s works and the theme of seven deadly sins. What, we must ask, is the transformative power of shame or envy or pride when we yield to our own vulnerabilities and consider the causes, consequences, and possibility of redemption? The menu will explore how these notions are perceived through a lens of food and food-sharing, where the private and public converge.
Attention, wrote the late poet Mary Oliver, is the beginning of devotion. And devotion, we might add, a means to acceptance, to gratitude, to self-actualization. “When you lean into your inner sinner,” writes Baker, “you are rewarded for it.”
From the show’s curator, Justin Dwaun Redding—At Naomi Projects, we believe art has the power to redefine our narratives and reveal the beauty within our vulnerabilities. With 'So You Want An Award Or Something?', Mack Baker challenges us to reimagine sin not as a mark of shame, but as a celebration of our authentic selves. Their innovative work transforms the traditional narrative around the seven deadly sins into a bold, revealing, and ultimately liberating experience. This exhibition is a testament to embracing our inner truths—rewarding us when we lean into our imperfections.
This is a 7+ course progressive meal including curated cocktail pairings featuring Kudù Social + Johnnie Walker Scotch Whiskies + Coquetel Collective.Menu to be announced Monday March 24th. Keep your eyes peeled!
This menu is incredibly thoughtful and though we will do our best to accommodate all dietary restrictions, we ask for please no preferences. We are proud to always offer a pescatarian and vegetarian menu, but might not be able to make all courses vegan.
