ALMA———atelier dinner series
IN BED WITH SUSAN AURINKO
a dinner with photographer Susan Aurinko
thursday, may 8TH
6PM-9PM @ alma gallery
3636 S Iron St, Chicago, IL 60609
In conjunction with Alma, we’ll be producing a series of dinners based on their current programming. As a gallery space, Alma is a revolving door for new work and exhibitions, each series redefining the space. But the space, too, is a type of canvas, both form and function that makes space for new narratives through curation and placement, as each piece speaks a little differently in conversation with the exhibition around it.
For over 20 years, Susan Aurinko has been photographing the hotel beds she sleeps in while traveling to work on her projects-journeys she almost always undertakes alone. These images reference much needed rest and serve as a visual record of the dreams left on the pillow, in the still-warm, tangled bedclothes, and within the transient rooms she inhabits as a photographer in search of the next image.
The project has gained new depth and dimension with each place she awakens Paris, Copenhagen, Ghent, Agra, Hamburg, Helsinki, and beyond. The collection of beds continues to grow, with titles reflecting her locations. Provocative and evocative, the series stands as a testament to process and dreams, inspiration, and the artist's personal artistic journey.
We’ll be preparing a 5-course dinner that tells a similar story of how textures and liminal spaces can be woven together to create a composite a meal that makes you feel both at easy in the familiar and on edge from the unknown.
ALMA: ATELIER DINNER SERIES is an invitation to encounter the presence of another through the making and sharing of food through the lens of artists and their work. To deeply connect through the stories of people, of ingredients, of pieces that move us.
This is a 5 course progressive meal will include a spirited (or NA) welcome cocktail with guests invited to BYOB
Doors will be at 6PM for cocktail hour with dinner beginning promptly at 7PM. We will send out an informational welcome email the week of the event with more arrival details.
This menu is incredibly thoughtful and though we will do our best to accommodate all dietary restrictions, we ask for please no preferences. We are proud to always offer a pescatarian and vegetarian menu, but might not be able to make all courses vegan.
We do understand that life happens! Unfortunately, these tickets are non refundable as this collaborator will be here one time for this very special event. Though we are happy to try to help facilitate transfers to other parties, as we usually have a waitlist. Please always email us at hello@txatxaclub.com to be added to the list or check on a transfer.
